Adopted as a Baby, a Farmer Digs Into Her Culture

(2018)

Role: Director, producer, camera
Company: Great Big Story

When Krysten Leach was growing up as a kid on Long Island, her diet was typical American food: hotdogs, pasta, and the occasional Hawaiian chicken. But as she became an adult and started exploring food, Krysten wanted to learn more about the cuisine of Korea, the country she was adopted from as a baby. Discovering the food and plants of Korea taught her about her heritage in a truly unique way. Today, Krysten works with Chef Dennis Lee to farm Korean and other East Asian produce for Lee’s San Francisco restaurant Namu Gaji. Together, they are learning about the past and creating an innovative (and delicious) future.
