When Rita McMahon found a wounded Canada goose on the side of the highway in New York City, she quickly learned that there was no place to bring injured wildlife in the entire city. She nursed the bird back to health, and the animal lover soon started taking in birds of all kinds into her apartment. Today, Rita runs the Wild Bird Fund, the only wildlife rehabilitation center in all of New York City.
